AN 18-year-old girl of Chibolya Township in Mufulira District has allegedly been raped by two men when she went out to celebrate the cross over to the New Year with friends.
Copperbelt Police Commissioner Peacewell Mweemba confirmed the incident which happened on Sunday around 02:00 hours in Francis Mukupa township and said the matter was reported to the Police by the victim, who is a resident of Chibolya township.
Mr Mweemba said the victim reported the matter to the Police that she was raped by two men she could identify if seen.
“We have received a case of rape case from Mufulira where an 18-year-old woman of Chibolya Township was allegedly gang raped by two men while on a drinking spree with friends on New Year. The victim on Saturday around 20:00 hours went to a named bar to celebrate New Year with her friends and whilst, at the bar, she was joined by four men whom she started drinking with,’’ Mr Mweemba said.
Mr Mweemba said on Sunday morning, around 02:00 hours when she decided to go home, one of the men she was drinking with asked if he could escort her home, but she refused.
“After she refused, she started walking to her home as it was not far from the bar and after walking a few meters, the four men followed her and two grabbed her and took turns in raping her,” Mr Mweemba said. Mr Mweemba said the victim sustained general body pains and was rescued with the help of the members of the public.
