By ROGERS KALERO
ZAMBIANS should not stigmatise Chinese over the COVID-19, but ensure strict adherence to prevent measures, the Chinese community on the Copperbelt has said.
The Chinese community has also advised Zambians against travelling to European countries, Australia and the United States of America.
Wang Xin, the Zambia Chinese Association (ZCA) Copperbelt Chapter president, said the common enemy was the Covid-19 and so people should strive to find the solution to the problem instead of pointing accusing fingers on each other.
Mr Wang said this in Kitwe in reaction to social media reports that a Chinese national was found with coronavirus in Mwaiseni area of Chingola.
He said the social media reports were lies and a fabrication from some people who wanted to dent the image of the Chinese community in Zambia.
Mr Wang said the Chinese, who were in Zambia, had not travelled out since the outbreak of Covid-19 and could not have contracted the disease.
He said there were about nine Chinese companies in Chingola and one of them had since re-located to Kalulushi and that his investigations revealed that there was no such case.
“After I read such information from Social media, I communicated with the Chinese companies and I was told that there were nine Chinese companies and one had re-located to Kalulushi.
“When I inquired about the case of coronavirus, they said they had no such case. So I can tell you that it was a blatant lie and it is sad that some Zambians want to engage in pointing accusing fingers on each other, instead of finding solution to the problem,” Mr Wang said.
Mr Wang said Zambians should not stigmatise Chinese over the COVID-19, but should stop travelling to European countries, Australia and the US.
He said China had corona virus under control and had not recorded new cases, hence people should not stigmatise the Chinese.
He pointed out that China had recorded 80, 000 cases of coronavirus, out of which 7, 000 were treated while 3, 000 died of the disease
Mr Wang explained that 1,814 cases of corona virus had been recorded in 45 countries in Africa, but only one originated from China.
“There are no new cases of Coronavirus in China .So let us not make politics or accuse each other, but do what is right. Yes, what is right is to adhere to guidelines of the ministry of health,” he said
