ONE more person has been discharged from COVID-19 isolation Centre in Lusaka bringing the total number of the people that have recovered to three, Health Minister Chitalu Chilufya disclosed yesterday at a press briefing.
He said the number of active cases now stands at 35, and that country had continued to making steady progress in ensuring that citizens remain safe which had resulted in the country not recording any new cases in the last 72 hours.
Dr Chilufya said new stringent measures had been enforced to ensure that there was increased surveillance and announced that due to the reported positive COVID-19 case in Malawi, the screening will be enhanced in Eastern Province at the Mwami border.
He also disclosed that Government had declared the new residence at the University of Zambia great east road, as a quarantine Centre for truck drivers bringing essential supplies in the country.
Dr Chilufya said his ministry working with ministries of Communication and Transport, Home Affairs had come up with a mechanism to ensure that there was minimal disruption of trade and commerce in the country.
He said that over 5000 cases still remained on surveillance while all the36 individuals under isolation were doing well under the watchful eye of health experts.
Dr Chilufya disclosed that 280 public alerts were recorded and none tested positive and have been sent home and further said 1,544 people have successfully completed the 14- day quarantine period and have been discharged.
He said the citizens should not relent but continue staying safe by following the guidelines and measures put in place aimed ensuring there was no further spread of COVID-19.
“Statistics look encouraging and promising but it’s not time to relent and therefore the need to heed to all the health guidelines such as social distancing and avoidance of unnecessary travels,” he said.
