Chilufya warns against complacency

THE low death rate related to Covid-19 in the country should not result in complacence among the citizens as this might reverse the gains achieved so far.
Speaking during the Covid-19 update in Lusaka yesterday, Dr Chilufya, warned that the number of cases were likely to surge as the cold season was approaching.
Dr Chilufya disclosed that the country had recorded seven new cases of Covid-19 from 847 tests conducted in the last 24 hours, increasing the cumulative total number of cases to 153.
He said the country had so far recorded 103 recoveries, 46 active cases and 4 deaths.
Ministry of Health, he said, was going to continue carrying out screening and testing to ensure those with Covid-19 are identified and isolated.
The minister assured that the country had enough swabbing kits.
Dr Chilufya also clarified that Eastern Province had not recorded any case of Covid-19 and that the nation would be informed if the region would record a case from the tests that had been carried out.
And responding to a question on the recruitment of health workers as directed by President Edgar Lungu, Dr Chilufya disclosed that so far 2,100 health personnel had been recruited and deployed in various areas.
He said the exercise was ongoing and was being done in a transparent manner.
