I WILL RUIN YOU: HH WARNS TAYALI

By GRACE CHAILE-LESOETSA
HAKAINDE Hichilema has threatened to ruin Chilufya Tayali if he does not apologise and retract corruption allegations against him in relation to the 1990s privatisation process.

Mr Tayali, Economic and Equity Party (EEP) president has however vowed to fight on saying, “HH cannot intimidate me, I am relentless in this fight against privatisaiton corruption.”
“Hakainde Hichilema’s demands for an apology and K10 million will not scare me, the man knows what he has done so he wants to intimidate me,” Mr Tayali said.
Mr Tayali was reacting to United Party for National Development (UPND) president, Mr Hichilema’s letter of demand.
Mr Hichilema has demanded an apology from Mr Tayali for alleging that he corruptly benefitted from privatisation process of State-owned companies.
Mr Tayali has also been given seven days ultimatum in which to pay K10 million as atonement for the pecuniary damage allegedly caused to Mr Hichilema and costs in the amount of K350, 000.
In a letter of demand dated November 16, 2020, the UPND leader said that Mr Tayali’s words that he corruptly benefitted from privatisation meant that he was corrupt and therefore not fit to be Zambia’s President.
But Mr Tayali in an interview yesterday said he was relentless and would not be intimidated by a letter of demand.
“HH is scared, the man knows what he has done so he wants to intimidate me, but I am relentless,” he said.
On Sunday, Mr Tayali said he had gathered strong evidence on the alleged crimes Mr Hichilema committed during privatisation which will be enough to book him a place in jail.
However, Mr Hichilema said should Mr Tayali default in issuing a retraction and apology he will be constrained to issue legal process and committal proceedings against him in the High Court.
He said he would procced to render the EPP president bankrupt if he fails to settle the judgement debt and costs to be awarded by the court so that the semblance of his political career shall be ruined forever.
“It is therefore not far-fetched to say that your words were calculated by yourself to lower him in the estimation of many a citizenry that perceive him to be the only hope for this country in light of the social, political and economic challenges she is undergoing and your aim was to cause the electorate to shun him or refuse to vote him in the forthcoming Presidential elections scheduled on 12th of August, 2021 based on your malicious falsehoods,” Mr Hichilema’s lawyers, M Associates said in their letter of demand.
He also said that Mr Tayali committed contempt of Court when he made utterances in the land matter of Pheluna Hatembo, who has sued the UPND leader in the High Court .
