ARRESTING officer detective inspector Lombe Chulu has told the court that Kenneth Makina admitted to having shot dead his estranged wife because she provoked him.
This is in a matter where Makina, 42, a teacher, is facing two counts of murder and acts intending to cause grievous bodily harm.
It is alleged that on February 28, 2019, Makina murdered his wife Charity Jikubi, a police officer and with intent to maim, destroy, or disable, caused grievous bodily harm to Mr Eustone Kapotwe, his landlord, by shooting him in his right thigh.
Testifying before High Court Judge Pixie Yangailo, yesterday, Chulu told the court that on that fateful day around 08:15 hours in the morning, Makina did report himself at Woodlands police station.
He said the accused reported that he had shot his wife, Ms Jikubi.
“I interviewed Makina who narrated that his former wife had gone to his house to collect a wardrobe on that morning and it was during that time that they engaged in a quarrel. It was then that he went into the house and got the gun and started firing at his wife. “In that process of firing, the landlord tried to intervene and was shot at on the leg where he sustained a bullet gun shot wound,” he told the court.
The witness said Makina led him to the scene of the event at his home in Woodlands where four empty cartridges where picked up.
Mr Chulu said the postmortem conducted at University Teaching Hospital on February 25 indicated that Ms Jikubi died from gun shot wounds.
“She had two bullet wounds, one entering on the right shoulder penetrating to the left chin while the other entered through the right abdominal and the bullet got stuck in the stomach,” he said.
Mr Chulu said Makina presented a 9mm pistol with one round of ammunition.
He said in three involuntarily replies Makina admitted to have shot his wife because he was provoked.
Ms Justice Yangailo adjourned the matter to November 16 for continued trial.
