Chipolopolo far from best – Micho

By MICHAEL MIYOBA

ZAMBIA national soccer team coach Milutin “Micho” Sredojevic says the Chipolopolo are far from reaching their best despite having beaten Tanzania 2-0 in their first Group D fixture at the ongoing African Nations Champion (CHAN) tournament in Cameroon.

Speaking in a post-match interview after the match at Limbe Stadium, “Micho”  said he was not happy with the way the Chipolopolo played despite having won their CHAN opener.

“Micho”  said there is need for the Chipolopolo to adjust and focus on the crucial game against Guinea who are deemed to be a tougher opponent in Group D.

The Serbian who dedicated the 2-0 win to the millions Chipolopolo soccer fans said the team will need to plan adequately to be more competitive for Guinea.

“Our focus was on this match and now the win is for our supporters we now need to refocus and adjust to the situation when we play Guinea.

“This is a good step but we are far from our best. There are so many areas we need to look at before our next match against Guinea,” said “Micho.”

“We need to plan for Guinea. There is no opponent here who you can say I will beat them. You need to plan,” he said.

And Chipolopolo midfielder Collins Sikombe who was voted man of the match said the victory over Tanzania lifted the team’s spirit going into Saturday’s game against Guinea.

Sikombe said the Chipolopolo will shift their focus to preparing for Guinea who will provide another tough test for the Copper Bullets.

Meanwhile, Tanzanian coach Ettienne Ndayiragije said Tanzania would not be discouraged by the defeat.

Ndayiragije said the Taifa Stars can shine again and move past the group stages if they triumph in the remaining two games in Group D.

Tanzania will take on Namibia in their next match slated for Saturday at Limbe Stadium in Cameroon.
