SUB-CONTRACTORS should ensure that they take the works seriously and not compromise on quality, says the Road Development Agency (RDA).
RDA acting director of communications and corporate affairs, Anthony Mulowa said once sub-contractors compromise on quality, they delay their colleagues from benefitting from the projects because it was a revolving programme meant to benefit as many subcontractors as possible.
Mr. Mulowa said in an interview that RDA would continue to conduct random checks to ensure that sub-contractors comply with the specifications and designs given because quality work was top on its agenda.
And Mr. Mulowa has urged the main contractors to work closely with sub-contractors and ensure that they constantly supervise the works to avoid shoddy works.
“We urge the main contractors to embrace the sub-contractors by ensuring that they supervise the works so that they don’t compromise on quality,” he said.
Mr. Mulowa said RDA was happy with the performance of most of the sub-contractors although there are isolated cases of shoddy works being reported.
He said,’ ‘RDA is happy that most sub-contractors are learning and performing very well, so far so good, only isolated cases are reported.”
