HEALTH MINISTER OKAYS REOPENING OF SCHOOLS ON MONDAY

Health Minister Jonas Chanda has approved that schools should reopen on Monday and that the Ministry of General Education should ensure there is increased surveillance.

Dr Chanda says his Ministry fully supports President Edgar Lungu’s stance that schools should re-open on Monday February 1, 2021.

He has however warned that the Ministry will recommend closure of schools that will be found not adhering to stipulated measures.

Dr Chanda says schools will be treated as cases by case basis and those who will be found wanting shall be closed.

The Minister said this during the routine updates on Covid-19 in Lusaka today.

Meanwhile Zambia has crossed the 50, 000 mark in the number of covid19 cases after recording 1, 408 new cases out of 13, 524 tests done in the last 24 hours, representing a positivity rate of 10.4%

Zambia’s covid19 cumulative total number of cases now stands at 50, 319.
Health Minister Jonas Chanda says 17 deaths have also been recorded during the same period and 1,489 recoveries.

Dr Chanda says from the 17 deaths recorded, 10 have been classified as covid19 deaths while 2 are associated deaths and five are pending classification.
