SOCIALIST Party President, Fred M’membe, has denied acquiring land from a chief of Shiwang’andu using deceitful means.
Sub-chief Chama Nkulungwe of Mwika Royal village said Mr M’membe in 2016 asked him for a piece of land and promised that he would build him a house, a clinic, and a school for the villagers.
Chief Mukwikile said in an interview that to date the people in Mwika royal village including sub-chief Nkulungwe got nothing from Mr M’membe despite the promise.
But Mr M’membe said in an interview that he owns no land as an individual in Mwika village because the land in question is owned by a family.
He said it was not possible for any chief to allocate him land in the village because the land belongs to him and his family.
Mr M’membe added that the families who were part of the land included some of the most senior chiefs in Lubemba who have origins in Mwika Royal Village.
“What is there is communal family land which belongs to me and all my relatives collectively. So it is not possible for any chief to allocate me land in that village in any way, no one in that village owns the land,” he said.
