WE demand for the immediate suspension and disciplining of everyone involved in Honeybees medical supply scandal, Medical for Quality Healthcare in Zambia (MQHZ) Mr. Media and Advocacy Director Francis Kangwa has said.

He said MQHZ is disappointed over the revelations that Ministry of Health allowed the distribution  of substandard medical supplies across the country putting millions at great risk.

Mr Kangwa said taking substandard medicines can result in dangerous Health consequences.

“We are disappointed with the Ministry of Health, Medical Stores Limited (MSL) and Zambia Medicine Regulatory Authority (ZAMRA) for supplying substandard medical supplies in the Health facilities across the country,” he said.

Mr Kangwa said MQHZ was demanding that all the officers involved in these matters must be held accountable because it was unacceptable for the ministry of Health to distribute substandard drugs and other medical supplies to the public.

He said substandard drugs, condoms, gloves and other medical supplies that failed to meet the inspection standards are posing a very serious health risks to all users and must be recalled immediately.

Mr Kangwa also called on the Zambia Medicine Regulatory Authority (ZAMRA) and Medical stores limited (MLS) to take their work serious and stop taking Zambian for granted.

He also urged all those people who used the substandard condoms and gloves to go for VCT and hepatitis B testing to guarantee their safety.

Meanwhile, Mr Kangwa called on Government to test the COVID 19 vaccine before allowing the Ministry of Health to administer it to the public to ensure safety.

He said even amidst the second wave of COVID 19, government should take serious thought on the acceptance and use of controversial COVID 19 vaccine. “This vaccine must be tested according to our Zambian standards so that we can assure the public of its safety and gain the confidence which has been lost due to these irregularity by the ministry of Health,” he said.
