Bank teller in court for theft

A FEMALE teller at Banc ABC has appeared in the Lusaka Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing over K60, 000 belonging to her employer.

Mutale Mulenga, 29, of unknown house number in Avondale, Lusaka, has been slapped with one count of theft by servant contrary to section 272 and 278 of the Penal Code, Chapter 87 of the Laws of Zambia.

Particulars of the offence were that on May 19, 2017 in Lusaka, Mulenga, being a person employed by Banc ABC as a teller at Findeco House Branch, stole K60, 591 cash, the bank’s property. The money came into her possession on account of her employment.

And two Zimbabwean women and a man appeared in the same court for aggravated robbery involving K6,000.

Before the court were Tapiwa Munemo and Tirinanhu Kuzawenhamo, both of 302 Princes Avenue, Zimbabwe and Dzingai Bariri, a businessman of Zengeya village in Mayondera district. The trio is facing one account of aggravated robbery, contrary to section 294 (1) of the Penal Code Chapter 87 of the Laws of Zambia.

Particulars of the offence were that on December 16, 2016, the three jointly and whilst armed with a pistol, stole K6, 000 cash from Sadik Patel.

In the same court, three women of the same family appeared for assault, contrary to section 248 of the Penal Code Chapter 87 of the Laws of Zambia.

Particulars of the offence were that on June 17, 2017 Pauline Mbewe, 27, Fatima Mbewe, 24, and Tita Mbewe, 18, all of house number 3263 Lusaka West, jointly and whilst acting together assaulted Masuckh Ravji, thereby occasioning him actual bodily harm.

Meanwhile, two men of Chilanga district appeared in the same court for aggravated robbery, contrary to section 294 of the Penal Code Chapter 87 of the Laws of Zambia.

It was alleged that on July 4, 2017 Hickson Mweene, 27, and Gift Mweene, 30, jointly and whilst acting together and whilst armed with a knife, stole a 21 inch television set, a Nokia phone, MTN airtime, K1,200 cash and a mountain bicycle, altogether valued at K6,200 from Angela Phiri.

And two employees of Pick n Pay and a security guard have appeared in the same court for theft by servant involving goods worth K484 from the supermarket.

It was alleged that on June 13, 2017, Bwalya Chita, the security and two merchandisers Cephas Banda and Cephas Mwansa jointly and whilst acting together stole one by 11 watts Philips energy saver bulb, two by 23 watts Philips energy saver bulbs, four by five litre centaury dark cold wine, four highlighter pens, and two Bic pens altogether valued at K484.

All the cases were scheduled for allocation to trial magistrates.
