ZAMBIA Professional Boxing and Wrestling Control Board (ZPBWCB) secretary John Shipanuka has resigned with immediate effect so that he can focus on his family matters.
In his resignation letter dated November 18 addressed to ZPBWCB board chairman Nelson Sapi, Shipanuka said he had taken the decision purely on personal reasons.
He said that although he had enjoyed working with the association he had decided to vacate his portfolio so that he could focus on his family matters.
“Please accept this letter as my formal resignation as a Board Secretary with immediate effect. Although I have enjoyed working with you, personal reasons necessitate that I vacate my position and focus on improving my situation at home,” Shipanuka said.
Shipanuka said that he would remain a ring official for ZPBWCB, African Boxing Union (ABU), World Boxing Council (WBC) and all other Boxing Bodies that would require his services.
And Sapi said he had received the resignation letter from Shipanuka with mixed feelings as it had ‘hit him below the belt’.
He explained however that it compelled him to accept as any matters to do with the family matters were important to the wellbeing of any person.
Sapi said that a board meeting was held on Monday where the board invited Shipanuka to personally explain his decision to resign as well as give board members a chance to ask him questions which he said he ably answered.
During the same board meeting it was agreed that under the powers bestowed in the board specifically the Boxing Act Cap 156 of the Laws of Zambia, the board unanimously agreed to appoint Davies Nseluka who would now combine his role as board treasurer and board secretary.
