Bwana Mkubwa Member of Parliament Jonas Chanda has demanded that the current management team at Kafubu Water and Sewerage Company should resign on moral grounds because of poor performance in his constituency.
In a statement to Daily Nation in Ndola, Mr Chanda said the water company needed a new and vibrant management team that could respect customers, engage them and keep them informed on whatever challenges they may be facing in the provision of safe and regular water to our people.
He said the past four days the area experienced severe water shortages in many parts of the constituency with no notice or explanation given by the water utility company.
“Apart from supplying contaminated and discoloured water to our people, Kafubu Water and Sewerage Company is now acting with impunity by punishing residents of Bwana Mkubwa Constituency with severe water shortages as well as scandalously high water bills for mediocre services.
“I am calling on the Ministry of Water, Sanitation and Environment to act decisively on behalf of the people and fire the management team at this water utility company since it’s now obvious that they have failed in their duties and are no longer serving the interests of the people.
“Their performance has been awful and this situation is made worse by their choosing to be mute on the same people they are serving and getting money from,” he said
He said in marketing the golden rule was that the customer was always right but with Kafubu Water it has allegedly turned its customers into slaves.
However, KWSC has argued that it had made announcements on local radio stations to inform customers of water shortages in the southern zone.
Public relations officer Fales Mwanza said the major problem concerning the water quality was the land encroachment and algae which has multiplied.
He explained that the company had also been holding community meetings explaining on the challenges that the company was going to face.
