By PETER MALASHA

A traditional ruler in Mkushi’s Funda and Kabufumu area has reiterated calls to renovate Ilume -Kabufumu road.

Chief Shaibila’s advisor Raphael Chombela told the Daily Nation in an interview that the road was in a deplorable state such that people were failing to transport their farm produce to the readily available market.

Mr. Chombela said the current road condition was pathetic and needed to be worked on urgently to improve the situation.

He added that government should consider rehabilitating Ilume -Kabufumu road and  Kabufumu bridge because they were vital for goods as well as peoples passage.

“I am appealing to government to work on Ilume-Kabufumu road via Funda. This road is of economic benefit and a short cut to Kasalamakanga connecting to the Great North road,” Mr. Chombela said.

The Chief’s advisor noted that people in the area are agriculture oriented and there was a lot of farming activities taking place the whole year.

He said their effort at times proved futile due to lack of proper road to the market, hence their crops such as tomatoes went to waste to worst.

Mr. Chombela observed that if the road was not worked on, it would become impassable.

Recently, Mkushi District Council chairman Evans Bwalya said the council was doing everything possible to ensure that the road was rehabilitated and Kabufumu bridge built.

“We are still lobbying for funds for the same purpose. As soon as funds are released all these stalled projects will be completed.” Mr. Bwalya said.

He said they appreciated that the road was of economic benefit to the district and would ensure that it was done. He has since appealed to the people in the area to be patient.

Meanwhile, Milombwe primary school in Mkushi has embarked on the school expansion project, Parents Teachers Association (PTA) chairman Golden Musonko told the Daily Nation in an interview.

Mr. Musonko said the school administration in conjunction with the community have moulded 40,000 blocks for construction of a one by three classroom block in readiness for upgrading the learning institution to a secondary school.

He said the remaining blocks would be used for construction of a teacher’s house at the school premises.

Mr. Musonko, who is also Upper Lunsemfwa Ward Development Committee (WDC) chairman, said the community was eager to participate in the project up to its completion because it was looking forward to have a secondary school in the area.
