THE Chinese government has donated US$300,000 towards the fight against Cholera.

Speaking during the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding in Lusaka yesterday for technical support, Chinese ambassador to Zambia Yang Youming said the Chinese Government has been following closely on the cholera outbreak and would continue helping Government to curb the epidemic.

Mr Youming said a team of experts from China were in the country to share experiences with their Zambian counterparts on how to control the epidemic and to try and explore possibilities of future cooperation.

The ambassador said the team would be working with public health department and Chinese community would also be offering medical services.

He also said Chinese community will also donate boreholes and medicines towards the fight.

He said the Chinese Government would continue cooperating with Zambia to strengthen the ties especially during disaster time.

“We have been giving solidarity to the Zambian Government through this difficult times and we appreciate the efforts made by government and people of Zambia in fighting against cholera and we are happy that cholera cases have started coming down. Therefore, we have since made cash donations and material worth K1,000,000,” said Mr Youming.

And Health Minister Chitalu Chilufya thanked China for the donation which he said would go a long way towards the control of cholera in Lusaka.

Dr Chilufya said government would continue collaborating with Chinese government especially in areas of health and universal primary health care.

Meanwhile, 20 cholera cases have been recorded in the last 24 hours with Kanyama recording 16 cases and zero deaths in the last five days, both from the community and facility level.

Dr Chilufya is hoping that in the coming weeks the epidemic would be curbed completely

Meanwhile Local Government Minister Vincent Mwale has warned people charging K500 for the allocation of stands in Lusaka City market to stop because it was criminal, saying and anyone found waiting would be arrested.

Mr Mwale said he would not allow any one to take advantage of the situation because it was criminal. r Mwale also said unlicensed taxis would not be allowed to pirate in the CDB to ensure sanity.

Mr Mwale further disclosed that car dealers have also been re-allocated to a temporal site in front of government complex near Mosque for five days while Government was still looking for alternative site.
