SOME Members Parliament are mere passengers in Parliament and are not representing their people effectively, Dominion Bible Church Pastor, Davies Kasengele has said.
In an interview with the Daily Nation, Pastor Kasengele, a clergyman on the Copperbelt, expressed concern on the tendency by some parliamentarians to boost their personal wealth at the expense of the electorate who ushered them into office.
Pastor Kasengele said it was surprising that some parliamentarians from both the ruling PF and opposition parties were neglecting their constituencies.
”On the Copperbelt some of them have created artificial boundaries with the people who voted for them into office by settling in Lusaka and only come back to their constituencies during elections time soliciting for votes from the same people they have neglected,’ Pastor Kasengele said.
He observed that some parliamentarians in Kitwe and other parts of the Copperbelt had lost touch with the electorate after becoming law makers.
The clergyman urged people to scrutinise their leaders before selecting them to be their representatives.
Pastor Kasengele said parliamentarians should not be masters of their people but servants, adding that lawmakers should make it a habit to visit their constituencies so that they get first-hand information on various challenges.
