GOVERNMENT has completed the distribution of farming inputs in twelve out of the thirteen districts in Southern Province.

Southern Province Minister Edify Hamukale has confirmed the development to the Daily Nation in Livingstone.

Dr. Hamukale said that out of the thirteen districts in the province, only Siavonga district has not received the farming inputs for the 2016 – 2017 farming season which included compound D and Urea fertilizer and seeds. He said that as of Tuesday, the 13 districts namely Chikankata District, Choma District, Gwembe District, Kalomo District, Kazungula District, Livingstone District, Mazabuka District, Monze District, Namwala District, Pemba District, Sinazongwe District and Zimba District were in receipt of the farming inputs.

Last week, Dr. Hamukale told journalists during a media briefing at his office that Government was determined to deliver farming inputs to all the districts in the province.

He assured small scale farmers in the Province under the Farmer Input Support Programme (FISP) that they would receive their seeds in the last week of December.

Dr. Hamukale said the province had received 93 percent of the allocated Compound ‘D’ fertilizer and 36 percent of Urea Fertilizer but all districts would receive before the end of December.

“We are acting quickly on this matter of seeds and fertilizer so that farmers can plant their crops on time,” he said.
