IT is encouraging that President Edgar Lungu is not defending the procurement of 42 fire engines, as evident by calling for the Anti-Corruption Commission to investigate the deal, the Gallant Youth in Zambia executive director Henry Mulenga has said.
Mr Mulenga has since asked President Lungu to set up a task force that would deal with matters of corruption as the public has lost confidence with the ACC that had appeared to be toothless, especially on matters bordering on the interests of the nation.
Mr Mulenga said that the ACC had been taking long in investigating matters, saying it was for that reason the issues of corruption had continued despite efforts that were made by the relevant authority.
“We are hoping the ACC will expedite the investigations, owing to the fact that President Lungu has spoken.
The people of Zambia are losing interest in the investigative wings because they had been taking long to conclude the investigations,” he said.
Mr Mulenga noted that President Lungu had tried his best not to defend anyone by encouraging the investigative wings to take interest in the matter, following the outcry over the price of the procured 42 fire engines.
President Lungu said that those with evidence or any useful information about fire tenders must come forward and those charged with the responsibility to investigate must show interest in the matter, following the outcry about the fire tenders.
