HEALTH workers should remain professional in their duties because Zambians deserve quality health care services, Southern provincial health director, Jelita Chinyonga has said.

Dr. Chinyonga implored health personnel to afford the utmost of excellence in caring for patients on a daily basis.

She was speaking during the handover ceremony of the renovated and upgraded Kafue Gorge Hospital in Chikankata district.

“The Ministry of Health has emphasised on providing clean, caring and competent health services to the Zambian population.

“I encourage the health staff to show full dedication and care in providing health services as emphasised by the Government,” said Dr. Chinyonga.

She explained that by nature of the healthcare industry, hospitals provided services to clients who were often in distress.

And Dr. Chinyonga commended Kafue Gorge Regional Training Centre (KGRTC) for facilitating and funding the renovation and upgrade works at the cost of K62, 000.

“Kafue Gorge Hospital is currently servicing a population of over 16,000 people.

“The extensive renovation and upgrade of the hospital by KGRTC has created a therapeutic and aesthetic environment which is key in stress relief, resulting in greater patient satisfaction, hence improved utilisation of health services,” she said.

Dr. Chinyonga further urged management at the hospital to guard the facility jealously.

And Chikankata district commissioner Trevor Kayanda said Government had prioritised the upgrade of infrastructure for health services across the country.

“This has been made possible through colossal investment by the Government in health care,” said Mr. Kayanda.

Meanwhile, KGRTC Board of Trustees chairperson Engineer Fidelis Mubiana said the renovation and upgrade of the hospital was part of the corporate social responsibility policy of KGRTC.

Engineer Mubiana added that “patients and staff alike expect to be treated, cared for and work in a pleasant, clean, tidy and safe environment. We are confident that we have done our part by sharing our resources and manpower to improve the environment and appearance of this health facility”.
