THERE was laughter in Lusaka Local Court when a woman said that she did not force her husband to make love but she hold him and that he turned to her showing that he also wanted.
Brenda Chileshe of Mandevu compound was testifying in a case in which her husband, Alexious Hameno, 30, sued her for divorce.
However, Chileshe said she still loved her husband, Hameno. The two got married in 2012 and they have one child. Dowry was not paid.
Hameno told Senior Court Magistrates Miyanda Banda, Pauline Newa and Ronnie Shafwensha at Matero Local Court that problems started a year ago because Chileshe denies him sex unless she wants.
He explained that Chileshe later started refusing to prepare him water for bathing and that she attempted to commit suicide on two occasions.
Hameno added that since he has feelings he got himself a girlfriend and has since impregnated her.
“I was shocked to find a message on Chileshe’s phone saying ‘falling in love with you is the sweetest thing in the world’ the number was saved better half,’’ said Hameno.
In defence, Chileshe said that problems started in November 2016 because Hameno had a girlfriend who phoned her and asked if he doesn’t have a wife.
She explained that Hameno became moody and he later told her that she caused him to impregnate another woman as she always claimed she was sick whenever he wanted to make love.
“Hameno started talking to a woman on phone in my presence he did not stop despite his uncle advising him to stop. He started saying that he will leave and later I received the summons,’’ said Chileshe.
Asked by Hameno if she was denying him conjugal rights, Chileshe said it was once last year when she was menstruating.
Asked by the court the cause of problems, Chilseshe said that it was a woman in Kabwe and the pregnant woman in Choma.
In submission, Hameno said that he wanted to divorce Chileshe because she denies him conjugal rights.
He said although the two made love last week, she forced him as he had lost interest in her.
But Chileshe denied she forced Hameno to make love, saying when she told him, he turned to her indicating that he was also interested.
The court said sex was important in a marriage but that there was nothing much to talk about because the two were just cohabiting. Even dowry was not paid and therefore, the court dismissed the case.
