TASILA Lungu has described as false, reports circulating in some quarters of the media that she was involved in illegal trafficking of mukula logs whose proceeds she used to build houses in Lusaka.

Ms Lungu, who is Nkoloma Ward 1 councillor in Chawama constituency, also categorically dismissed allegations that she was recently swindled in a fake gold transaction.

“I can categorically deny both stories and declare them false. I have not at any juncture been involved in either of the alleged criminal transactions.

“This kind of reporting is highly regrettable. While social media is a positive tool that we can all use to share news and express our ideas to communities and vast networks, it is very sad that others are using it for cyber bullying,” Ms Lungu lamented.

Ms Lungu said in a statement yesterday that media was the fourth estate and responsible reporting devoid of malice, misinformation, sensation and speculation was an obligation and mandate of everyone calling themselves a journalist or media house.

She pleaded with the Zambian Information and Communication Technology Authority (ZICTA) to investigate the authors of this false information so that they could face her in court.

Ms Lungu complained that like a few other leaders in communities, she had become a victim of cyber bullying and that her character had been assassinated over issues that she had absolutely no connection to.

“I am not only a citizen but a representative of over 200,000 residents of a ward and among these, the majority are young people. I have continued to work hard and serve as a positive role model to these young people.

“As a professional with a masters degree in criminal justice, I understand my rights and I understand that defamation of character is an offence and those who have continued to spread these falsities to destroy my character must be dealt with,” the councillor said.

She said as person who was academically sound, she worked for her money honestly whenever she needed it.

She pledged to continue working for the people in ward through the many projects she was presently undertaking such as the We create Zambia, among others.
