A MAN caused laughter in court when he refused to reconcile with his wife who likes fighting because he fears he could beat the “lights out of her.”
Sydney Sikazwe, 30, of Garden compound said since he drank beer he could lose his temper and beat his wife who liked fighting.
He was testifying in a case in which his wife, Precious Sikazwe, 20, sued him for reconciliation.
The two got married in 2016 and do not have children.
Precious told Senior Court Magistrates Miyanda Banda, Pauline Newa and Ronnie Shafwensha at Matero Local Court that when Sikazwe knocks off from work he doesn’t sit so that they make a budget or discus important issues but he just goes to drink at a bar.
She explained that at one time she found Sikazwe kissing a woman at the bar and that at home he told her that she can also “start” life.
“Sikazwe beat me with a stool, I reported him to police and I developed chest pains. On January 5, 2018 he packed for me and chased me,’’ said Precious.
In defence, Sikazwe said that Precious likes fighting and that she doesn’t give him respect.
He explained that since he drinks beer he can lose his temper and beat Precious, adding that he can commit an offence because gender violence is on the increase. He said he doesn’t want reconciliation.
The court said that since Sikazwe did not want to reconcile, he cannot be forced to remain in marriage.
The court ruled a failed reconciliation.
