JOURNALISTS are once more reminded to follow up and monitor how funds provided for the cholera fight are being utilised.

This would allay fears that some crooks and other corrupt individuals may take advantage and begin to put more money in their pockets instead of directing resources to the intended cause.

Catholic Media Service communications director, Father Winfield Kunda, said in a statement to the Daily Nation that journalists should also apply the impact they have on people that follow them to influence behaviour change.

“We should create a mind-set in people that will help them to maintain a clean and safe environment to prevent any further outbreak of the disease,”

“This should not only be done now when the country has been attacked by this pandemic but at all times,” said Fr. Kunda.

In the meantime, the Council of Churches in Zambia (CCZ) has advised Zambians to stop peddling speculations and apportioning blame on authorities but instead rise to the occasion as one to defeat the cholera epidemic.

In a statement, CCZ Communications Officer, Michael Mazakaza has called upon all Christian families and Zambians to embark on a deliberate and consistent cleaning exercise of their residences to maintain the highest forms of cleanliness.

Mr Mazakaza said CCZ has since instructed all its member churches in Lusaka to participate in the massive cleaning exercise to curtail the spread of cholera.

This follows a CCZ management meeting which Saturday on Tuesday January, 9 2018 to brainstorm on how best the church mother body could respond to the pandemic.

“Member congregations are further advised to utilise Sunday to clean after worshipping but subject to strict prior engagement, consultation and permission from local health authorities.

“The congregations in other parts of the country are urged to proactively begin to thoroughly clean and under the Local Council of Churches chapters, engage the local health authorities in each district to initiate and participate in general and comprehensive cleaning activities,” he said.
