MPs poaching immoral

It is immoral for President Michael Sata to insist on appointing opposition Movement for Multiparty Democracy (MMD) Members of Parliament into the Patriotic Front Cabinet.

Zambian Voice executive director Chilufya Tayali accused the President Sata of abrogating his moral obligation of supporting the meaning of a true democracy.

Mr. Tayali explained that President Sata was aware of the effects of his doings as he himself condemned such appointments when he was in the opposition.

“Does he think it is morally right to incite confusion like he is doing in the opposition?  Can he go to sleep and be comfortable with what he has done?” he charged.

Mr. Tayali said although the constitution was not in contention, President Sata’s actions did not qualify to be morally right

“The President knows it is wrong because he condemned it while in opposition, in fact he should realize that this only demonstrates his moral standings which only serves his interests,

“It doesn’t have to be in the Constitution for us to know if it is wrong, it is an unwritten law which comes naturally like against humanity and democracy,” he charged.

He questioned the rationale in appointing opposition MPs into Cabinet as opposed to the ruling party members who already supported the PF manifesto and its manoeuvres.

“What do the MMD MPs have which they are bringing to the Cabinet that PF members do not have?  What is it that Richard Taima brings to PF which can’t be found within the ruling party camp?” he added.

Mr. Tayali applauded Professor Clive Chirwa’s appointment to head the Zambia Railways because he was qualified for the position as opposed to blind appointments built on political disharmony.

President Sata appointed 9 opposition Parliamentarians as deputy ministers in the PF Cabinet which has affected the former ruling party and weakened the impact of the opposition in the country.
