NKANA Football Club has fired technical director Aggrey Chiyangi while Beston Chambeshi returns at the club as head coach on a two-year contract.
The club has also appointed former Green Eagles coach Manfred Chabinga as Chambeshi’s assistant, taking over from Gift Kampamba.
Former Lumwana coach Chambeshi replaces Zeddy Saileti who leaves the club on seventh position with 16 points.
In a statement issued yesterday, club president Everisto Kabila said the changes to the technical bench was aimed at improving the team’s performance and ensure they finish in a respectable position this season.
Kabila said the club was confident Chambeshi and Chabinga will meet the club’s objectives.
“Both Chambeshi and Chabinga have signed a respective two-year contracts with the club. I have no doubt that the two will be equal to the task as they both have vast experience in the coaching job,” he said.
He thanked Saileti, Kampamba and Chiyangi for their contribution during their stay at the club.
Chambeshi was in May, 2015, fired by Nkana due to the under-performance of the team. The dismissal came two days after Nkana’s 3-0 away loss to Lusaka Dynamos at Sunset Stadium in Lusaka.
In a statement issued then read: “Nkana Football Club has relieved its head coach, Mr Beston Chambeshi and his assistant, Mr Linos Makwaza, of their duties with immediate effect. This follows poor performance recorded by the team during the season.”
Chambeshi has proved his critics wrong with the brilliant performance of the Junior Chipolopolo team which saw Zambia storm the quarter-finals of the Under-20 World Cup in South Korea.
