THE escalating level of intolerance among politicians has potential to threaten peace and stability of the country if left unchecked and we urge the ruling PF and opposition UPND to sit down and dialogue, the SACCORD has said.
SACCORD executive director Boniface Cheembe said it was important for the two leading political parties to dialogue for the betterment of the country.
“The two leading political parties, the PF and UPND, should be able to engage and dialogue to lessen the already existing tension in the country,” he advised.
Mr. Cheembe told the Daily Nation in an interview yesterday that there must be mutual respect among the political parties to avoid conflicts.
“The party in government must appreciate the fact that existence of the opposition is legally bound and the opposition alike should also show mutual respect to the ruling party.”
He urged opposition political parties and the PF to embrace respect and dialogue in their discourse.
The executive director said dialogue between the governing party and those in the opposition played a crucial role in enhancing democracy and development.
Mr. Cheembe further stated that lack of peace and stability in the country has potential to scare away investors.
