INVESTIGATIVE wings should investigate people behind false statements circulating on social media purporting to have been issued by State House, says 3RD Liberation Movement president Enoch Roosevelt Tonga
Mr Tonga said there had been so much ‘chaos’ on social media especially to matters concerning the activities done by government.
Speaking in an interview with the Daily Nation yesterday Mr Tonga said the security wings should make sure that law and order were maintained.
He feared that such fake news circulating across social media were needed serious investigations especially that they were being posted on PF social media blog.
Recently there were false report on social media claiming Copperbelt minister Bowman Lusambo had been promoted to the post of sports minister.
Another report said Land ministers Jean Kapata had been dropped from her ministerial post by President Lungu.
“The fake news circulating on social media concerning reshuffles of ministers are very serious which investigative wings should not just sit and watch as culprits go scot free,
“Investigative wings across the country should wake up and get to work and bring this nonsense to an end,” he said.
Mr Tonga demanded that investigative wings like ZICTA, the police and intelligence wings should quickly move in and seriously investigate the matter.
He said such sentiments of fake news had every ability to dent the picture of Zambia.
“Investigations should not only be done until the Republican president issues says so, such serious issues paint a bad picture of the country,” he said.
He said it was a worry to see investigative wings ‘sleeping’ when such serious sentiments were being circulated on social media and consequently painted a bad picture of the country.
