KANYAMA West residents in Kanyama Constituency are concerned over the rising levels of crime in the area especially during the night.
In an interview with the Daily Nation, the residents said there was urgent need to put up another police post in the community because criminals have taken advantage of the situation.
Amos Chisanga of Kanyama West said the residents were living in fear because security was compromised and people were being attacked and robbed any time.
Mr Chanda said thieves were raiding homes in broad day light and residents could do nothing because the Los Angeles and Kanyama police stations were far apart. “We are living in fear due to the criminals who are terrorizing our homes. We can no longer live normally because thieves are all over,” Mr Chisanga said.
Another concerned resident, Abel Phiri, said there was need for concerted effort to address the rising crime in the area, especially in Mbasela area, calling on the police to increase patrols to stop attacks on innocent citizens.
Mr Phiri said residents were living in fear because the police post in the area was far from the community, despite many appeals to relevant authority.
And Sharon Miyoba of Garden House area wondered why Government was not constructing another police post when the area was infested with high crime levels and people were being killed.
Ms Miyoba said the area Member of Parliament Elizabeth Phiri needed to do more to secure their safety because she was fully aware of the poor security situation in her area.
“We wish Government can construct another police post because we have too many criminals here in Kanyama West, Mbasela and Garden House area. Once the police post is constructed the issue of insecurity in the community will come to an end,” she said.
