The Patriotic Front (PF) government should state the areas in which they have created 20,000 jobs in the eleven months they have been in office, says Alliance for Democracy and Development (ADD) President Charles Milupi.

Reacting to the PF’s claims that they have created over 20,000 jobs from the time they took office, Mr Milupi said government should not cheat people and give false hopes but work hard on fulfilling their campaign promises.

“I think the unemployment issue in the country is a very serious matter. This issue requires commitment and dedication from the government. On average 70 percent of our people are not in employment, it is worse in rural areas because there about 97 percent who are not in employment,” he said.

Mr Milupi said people have lost hope in the ability of the PF government to deliver on their promises.

“When dealing with such issues they need to be sensitive because they are alot of school leavers languishing on the streets with no jobs. Soon we will have more school leavers and they will not find jobs as there are no jobs in the country,” he further said.

He further urged the government not to boast about small irrelevant issues but instead focus on job creation, which was a national crisis.

“This is a serious matter so let them not boast about trivial matters. People have lost hope in the ability of the PF to deliver. They have created non-existant jobs, which we have not seen. Let them stop playing mind games, it is unacceptable,” he said.

Recently Commerce Minister Bob Sichinga said his government has managed to create over 20,000 quality jobs since assuming power in September last year.

Mr. Sichinga said that they have created over 20, 000 jobs  in sectors such as the mines and road construction which they are currently documenting to show the nation were they are being created.

He further said they have been realigning and have not failed to deliver in 90 days claiming that it is unfair to say they have cheated the Zambians.

Mr. Sichinga said his Ministry is committed to spearheading the creation of permanent and decent jobs for the millions of unemployed Zambians.
