GOVERNMENT has increased the social cash transfer budget allocation for the vulnerable people in the country from K200,000 to K250,000.

Ministry of Community Development and Social Welfare permanent secretary Dr David Chikamata disclosed this recently in Solwezi when he was checking on how the social cash transfer programme was being implemented in North Western Province.

Dr Chikamata said Government through his ministry had continued to expand the cash social transfer to increase access to income among vulnerable people across the country.

He said the expansion of the programme had necessitated the increase of the budget for the cash transfer money from K200,000 to K250,000.

And provincial social welfare officer George Akayombokwa informed the permanent secretary that there were 9,650 beneficiaries on the social cash transfer list in three districts in the province.

Mr Akayombokwa said the programme will be rolled out to four other districts that include Kasempa, Ikelengi, Manyinga and Kabompo districts.

However, Mr Akayombokwa said the department was facing challenges in reaching out to beneficiaries because of lack of reliable transport in the districts.
