…Kampyongo reveals that an MP canvassing PF MPs for support

By KALOBWE BWALYA, MARTIN AKENDE and

SIMON MUNTEMBA

A  LEADING UPND Member of Parliament is going round trying to persuade Patriotic Front Members of Parliament to support a motion to impeach President Edgar Lungu once it is presented in Parliament, Home Affairs Minister Stephen Kampyongo has disclosed.

In an interview with the Daily Nation, Mr Kampyongo has since warned UPND members to stop inciting people to rise against Government because it was criminal and they will be arrested in no time.

Mr Kampyongo said UPND are known to be perpetual losers in elections, therefore they will not ascend to power by using dubious means or back door, but through a ballot paper.

Mr Kampyongo said he was not surprised that UPND can go to such an extent because they were desperate for power.

He said investigations have since been instituted and anyone found wanting will not be spared, but face the full wrath of the law.

He also said being the minister in charge of Home Affairs, he will not let the UPND continue causing confusion among the people.Mr Kampyongo wondered why the UPND, which claimed to be popular and a Government in waiting would want to pursue people to support their impeachment motion.

Mr Kampyongo, who is PF Shiwang’andu MP has since appealed to fellow MPs not to panic because the governing party had a majority in Parliament.

Meanwhile, PF Mafinga MP Jacob Siwale has said Roan MP Chishimba Kambwili’s intended impeachment motion of President Edgar Lungu is misplaced and lacks merit.

Mr. Siwale said plans of Mr. Kambwili who is National Democratic Congress (NDC) consultand, to impeach President Lungu will not be entertained should he decide to proceed with the motion.

And Mr Siwale  has dismissed claims by the NDC suggesting that they have politically penetrated Chinsanli and Muchinga Province as a whole.

And the ruling party in Southern province had described calls to impeach President Lungu unattainable and an exercise in futility.

PF Provincial information and publicity secretary Trymore Mwenda said the PF in Southern province was saddened with the lack of direction and relevance by some opposition political parties in Zambia.
