A 33-year-old woman shocked a Local Court in Lusaka when she admitted that she got impregnated by another man while on separation from her husband.

This was in a case in which Olipa Zulu of Desai compound sued her husband Joseph Chipukula, 42, of Zingalume compound for divorce on allegation that he was extremely cruel.

The two got married in 2006 and have four children.

Zulu told Senior Court Magistrate Miyanda Banda sitting with Magistrate Pauline Newa at Matero Local Court that all was well when Chipukula had no money.

She said problems started in 2015 when he started having money and spent nights out on the pretext that he was doing night shifts.

She heard rumours that Chipukula had a girlfriend and he later confirmed the state of affairs.

Zulu said at one time she followed Chipukula at his girlfriend’s house in Paradise compound and found him seated with her on the bed with his zip trousers open, adding that he beat her up.

“Chipukula was bringing used condoms home and his pubic hair was shaved by people I did not know when we are supposed to shave each other,’’ said Zulu.

In defence, Chipukula said that he never enjoyed his marriage because Zulu drinks too much beer with men and that at one time she infected him with an STI.

He explained that when they sat to resolve the matter Zulu revealed that she got the STI from a man who was having sex with in Kanyama compound.

Chipukula further told the court that he later learnt that the same man who infected Zulu with an STI even impregnated her but she aborted without him knowing.

Chipukula further said that he caught Zulu drinking beer with men in the morning on two occasions.

“I want divorce because Zulu always says that she will kill me and she is the one who left matrimonial home, we have been on separation for three weeks,’’ said Chipukula.

Asked by the Court if she was indeed impregnated by another man, Zulu boastfully admitted doing so because she wanted to get even with Chipukula who also had a girlfriend.

Magistrate Banda said that they were just cohabiting because dowry was not paid and he dismissed the case of divorce.
