TWO people have died and a lot more may happen unless inspector General of police Kakoma Kanganja and Director of Public Prosecutions Lillian Sinyuni stop the Hatembo circus.
The veracity or truth about Kalomo farm 1924 must be publicly acknowledged and Zambians told the plain truth in order to bring the matter to rest.
Young African Leaders Initiative (YALI) president Andrew Ntewewe said it was unfortunate that side events were taking centre stage while the main issue was being ignored.
Mr Ntewewe said unless Mr Kanganja and Ms Sinyuni stop this fraud at the Ministry of Lands more people may die.
He said the matter must therefore be prosecuted immediately to avoid a loss of life and unnecessary tension in the country.
Kalabo UPND officials have charged that it would be disastrous for the party to have Chinga Miyutu as a candidate to recontest the Kalabo Central parliamentary seat because he has unresolved serious case in which he allegedly killed an 18-year-old boy two weeks ago,.
The concerned UPND officials who did not want to be named for fear of victimization accused their party’s senior officials of not respecting the people’s will by imposing a candidate who allegedly caused a riot in the constituency two weeks ago.
In a walk in interview, the four UPND officials claimed that residents of Kalabo Central were upset with Mr Miyutu for having killed an 18-year boy in an accident due to dangerous driving and reportedly paid the family members to bury the victim without postmortem to conceal the case.
“Hon. Miyutu killed Nalumino Mulele aged about 18 years in Kalabo two weeks ago during adoption process and in an attempt to conceal the matter, he paid some family members K30, 000 so that they bury without conducting a postmortem and this sparked a riot among other family members and residents. Police had to come to quench the riot where they used rubber bullets to dispense the people.
“But our concern is that while people in the area are upset with Hon. Miyutu, our party leadership want to impose him as a candidate to recontest. The matter is not resolved yet and once we pick him as our candidate, the case will resurface more especially that there was no postmortem done on the deceased,” one of the UPND officials said.
“We want HH to know that the decision to impose Hon. Miyutu will cost the party at both district and national level because the people are aggrieved in Kalabo,” they said.
Efforts to get a comment from Mr Miyutu proved futile at press time.
