COURT ORDERS CHRISMAR HOTEL TO PAY K300, 000 WATER BILLS

By GRACE CHAILE LESOETSA

THE Lusaka High Court has ordered Chrismar Hotel Limited to pay over K300, 000 being money owed to Lusaka Water Supply and Sanitation Company Limited (LWSSC) for sewerage bills.

LWSSC sued the hotel in the Lusaka High Court, demanding a payment of K371, 248.46 being the outstanding bill for sewerage services it provided.

Chrismar is alleged to have illegally reconnected its premises to LWSSC’s network by removing the sewer plug which was used for disconnection.

The water utility firm was also claiming interest, replacement of a six-inch inflatable sewer plug, costs of and incidental to the proceedings.

The hotel however could not file its defence in the matter.

Lusaka High Court Judge Mathew Zulu this month entered judgement in default of appearance and defence.

“It is this day adjudged that the plaintiff recovers against the said defendant the sum of K371, 248.46, being an outstanding balance accumulated from unsettled water and sewerage bills.  Interest on the said sum, costs of and incidental to these proceedings,” read the judgementt
