THERE is need for the Judiciary to come up with regulations that will protect citizens from frivolous lawsuits from desperate individuals that are seeking unwarranted relevance in society, Patriots for Economic Progress president Sean Tembo has said.
Mr Tembo said the court of law should consider coming up with a mechanism to stop unscrupulous individuals who are wasting court time with groundless law suits.
In an interview, the opposition leader noted with dismay that some individuals were making what he termed as frivolous petitions aimed at derailing the campaigns ahead of the August 12 elections.
He advised the petitioners to find something meaningful to do with their spare time instead of jumping from one court registry to another, filing frivolous lawsuits.
“For example, the petition to the Constitutional Court to declare nominations of presidential running mates null and void is frivolous and intended to waste time in the campaign period.
“Our appeal to the Judiciary is to come up with regulations that will protect citizens from frivolous lawsuits from individuals that are seeking unwarranted relevance in society,” Mr Tembo said.
He said lodging petitions that were totally without merit was wastage of judicial time, and delayed cases that deserved to be reviewed by the judges.
