GOVERNMENT has assured the residents of Mufulira Central that it would for the first time build a secondary school in the area.

This follows a plea from the Member of Parliament, Evans Chibanda, to have a secondary school constructed in the area to Minister of General Education Dennis Wanchinga in Mufulira Central yesterday.

Dr Chibanda made the plea shortly before handing over a one by three classroom block that he built as area MP at Mutundu Primary School at a total cost of K980, 000.

Mufulira Central has since 1964 never had a secondary school apart from those that were recently upgraded.

Dr Wanchinga has thus directed Copperbelt Provincial Education Officer Felix Ngoma to engage various stakeholders in the province to see how the project could be actualised.

“We will also as a ministry start running up and down engaging cooperating partners of the ministry to see how we can deliver the much needed project to the constituents.

“May I also take advantage of this gathering to instruct the Provincial Administration to start working on plans to make Mutundu Primary School a GCE centre. I therefore expect and urge the two offices to take the instructions seriously and set the ball rolling with immediate effect,” he said.

Dr Wanchinga observed that despite Government trying by all means in ensuring that no one was left behind, there were still a lot of challenges that needed to be addressed urgently.

He said this was therefore the reason cooperating partners needed to get on board and supplement government efforts in this area.

And Dr Chibanda said he saw it fit to build the classroom block at the school after realising that there was a deficit of classrooms.

He said he was also inspired by former Mutundu head teacher Andrew Msiska who approached him for the assistance of the construction of the project.

Meanwhile, Mr Msiska said he begun the project in 1996 and expressed gratitude to the area MP for accepting to help him complete the project.
