PULE DISCARDS PRESIDENTIAL AMBITIONS, OPTS FOR MP

By SIMON MUNTEMBA

CHRISTIAN Democratic Party (CDP) president, Danny Pule has discarded his presidential ambitions and opted to contest as Member of Parliament for Bangweulu constituency on his own party.

Dr Pule however said he will support President Edgar Lungu for presidency in the forthcoming Presidential and general elections.

“I have decided to contest as Bangweulu MP in the forthcoming elections because I cannot compete with President Edgar Lungu at Presidential level because I know I cannot beat him,” Dr Pule said in an interview.

He said he would be able to contest the Presidential race in 2026 when President Lungu’s second term comes to an end.

Dr Pule also expressed confidence that President Lungu would emerge victorious after the August 12 elections because the Zambian people have seen what he has done for them in the last few years he has been in power.

Dr Pule has also appealed to political parties participating in the forthcoming elections to desist from engaging in acts of violence.

He advised political parties to engage in issued-based campaigns adding that, “politics of violence should be avoided at all cost, political players should instead allow electorate to elect their preferred candidates freely.”

Dr Pule once served as MP for Bangweulu and Deputy Minister of Finance under Dr Frederick Chiluba’s regime.
