‘Don’t treat violent UPND cadres with kid’s gloves’

By SIMON MUNTEMBA

UPND cadres have proved to be the most violent party in Zambia and the security wings should not treat them with kid’s gloves because they are a danger to our peace, former UPND Presidential special advisor, Major Richard Kachingwe has said.

Maj. Kachingwe who is also former MMD sational secretary has called for an immediate end to the widespread barbaric and brutal attacks on innocent citizens by suspected UPND cadres.

In an interview, Maj. Kachingwe warned that if left unchecked, mayhem perpetrated by UPND cadres could rob the country of peace it had enjoyed since independence.

He has urged the security wings to take charge of affairs to protect innocent citizens.

“I know that the PF are capable of retaliating but that can result into something else. We therefore, appeal to the security wings to bring these widespread barbaric and brutal attacks on innocent citizens by UPND cadre who have proved to be the most violent.

“The security wings should not treat them with kid’s gloves because they are not only a danger to our peace but national security. They should take up its full responsibility to protect people’s lives and property. It is important to deal with them before the situation gets out of hands,” Maj. Kachingwe said.

He said perpetrators of violence, regardless of their political leanings or standing in society, must face the full import of the law as their role is to protect all citizenry.

He also condemned opposition leaders for tolerating their members who engage in violence, describing it as shocking.

He said it was sad that some opposition politicians still want to practice medieval politics of violence instead of selling their candidates and parties to the electorates.

As a country, he said, Zambia is known for its peace and tranquility which it has enjoyed for over 50 years.
