ECZ lifts PF, UPND campaigns suspension

By KETRA KALUNGA

THE Electoral Commission of Zambia has lifted the suspension of campaign activities for the Patriotic Front (PF) and United Party for National Development (UPND) in Mpulungu, Nakonde and Namwala following the satisfactory conduct of the political parties in the districts.

The Commission has however maintained the suspension of campaigns for the two parties in Lusaka.

ECZ chief electoral officer, Patrick Nshindano said during a media briefing yesterday that campaigns for UPND and PF  in Lusaka remain suspended because the commission was not fully satisfied with the conduct of the two political parties in the district.

Mr. Nshindano said the Commission has received a number of reports of violent incidences between UPND and PF  in Lusaka which are under investigations, a situation which  he said was saddening.

He said ECZ is working closely with the Zambia police and other agencies to quickly conclude the investigations.

The ECZ boss said the commission is yet to receive reports of violence in Kitwe, Chililabombwe, Luangwa and Nsumbu which are under investigations.

“We have reports of maiming each other in terms of political party cadres and other incidences which are being reported to the commission,” he said.
