GOVT GETS TOUGH ON ENFORCEMENT

By NOEL IYOMBWA

BARS and Casino owners that will abrogate the directive to operate from Friday to Sunday from 18:00 hours risk  having their licenses revoked without warning, Ministry of Local government and Housing permanent Matthew Ngulube has warned.

Mr Ngulube has also directed all local authorities to ensure that Covid 19 guidelines are enforced.

Speaking to journalists yesterday,  Mr Ngulube said that local authorities working with law enforcement agencies should ensure that masking up in public places is mandatory and monitored.

Mr Ngulube said that bar owners together with their patrons should be observing health guidelines when operating within stipulated hours.

He said that only gatherings that prove to have adhered to guidelines will be authorized.

Mr Ngulube also said that local authorities should place emphasis on heightened awareness of the pandemic by broadcasting through local radio, megaphones and bill boards.

“Provincial local government officers under their jurisdication should ensure that people adhere to instructions.

“Local government officers are expected to provide an oversight role and ensure that they submit weekly reports to the ministry on compliance for onward conveyance to the secretary to the cabinet,” he said.

Mr Ngulube charged that the ministry of Local government will continue to ensure  that directives are complied with.
