PRAY FOR EMOTIONAL POLITICIANS – WINA

By ROGERS KALERO

CLERGYMEN should provide counsel and pray for politicians who become emotional and perceive elections as a matter of life and death, Vice President Inonge Wina has said.

Ms Wina said she had observed with disappointment that every time the country was heading towards elections, some people think it was a matter of life and death and even become emotional.

Ms Wina was speaking at NAPSA complex in Kitwe yesterday when she met Kitwe Pastors Fellowship to urge them to continue praying for peace and unity in the country ahead of the August 12 elections.

The Vice President was accompanied by President Edgar Lungu’s running mate Professor Nkandu Luo, members of the PF central committee Sylvia Chalikosa, Jean Kapata and other members.

She said the church was a stakeholder critical in shaping the country’s moral guidance and in providing spiritual guidance to the political leadership in the country.

“We appreciate the role the church play in promoting unity and peace in the country.  We are grateful that as a church, you have been genuine partners in development and whenever the country faces challenges, we work together.

She said the government was seeking the help of the church to provide prayers that would restrain the offenders from engaging in any activities that may disrupt the peace of the nation.

And speaking earlier, President of Kitwe Pastors Fellowship Raddy Lewilla said the church supported the infrastructure development which has set the stage for effective distribution of goods and services in the country.
