WE CAN HIT BACK, BUT WON’T

By PETER SICHALI
We can hit but we won’t. And it is not cowardice that we are not retaliating to UPND provocation because we are just respecting our President Edgar Lungu’s call for restraint and a nonviolent campaign, PF Deputy National Chairman Davies Chama has said.

And Mr Chama has urged the Electoral Commission of Zambia to invoke its powers and disqualify UPND for perpetrating violence.

“It is not a matter of cowardice, we just want to maintain peace in the country because fighting back would result in serious chaos,” Mr Chama said.

Mr Chama has since advised PF members not to fight back when attacked but retreat.

“We can fight back if we wanted to but we are restrained from doing so by various calls  President Edgar Lungu has been making for peaceful elections,” Mr Chama said.

Mr Chama said it was unfortunate that UPND violence is becoming a pandemic.

“President Edgar Lungu has always been preaching about the need for us to be peaceful in our campaigns and we have heeded his advice but it looks like our friends are on a narcotic drug of violence,” Mr Chama said.

Mr Chama who is also Lusaka Province Presidential campaign manager said UPND leader Hakainde Hichilema should emulate President Edgar Lungu and condemn violence being perpetrated by his supporters.

He said Mr Hichilema should come out strongly and condemn violence being perpetrated by his party if he has nothing to do with it.

Mr Chama said any retaliation from PF would result in anarchy.

“Our friends are bloodthirsty but we do not want to take that route because that would destroy this country, so we are telling our members to retreat and restrain themselves,” Mr Chama said.
