MORE than 50 kilometres of feeder roads will be rehabilitated in Chingola with support from the Ministry of Local Government.

Chingola Municipal Council acting Director of Engineering, Andrew M’tewa, said the selected roads such as Luano will have a total of 6km worked on, while Muntimpa will receive 12.0 km.

Mr M’tewa said other roads that would be rehabilitated were Fipuya Kakalo 15.0km, Fisingwa 5.2 km and Ipafu 18.2 km.

He said SuperCom Zambia Limited had been engaged on the project and was expected to be on site next month for a two-year period.

“The project to work on feeder roads will focus on both road maintenance and drainage structures within the district.

“I can tell you that more than 50 kilometres of feeder roads will be rehabilitated in Chingola district of the Copperbelt with support from the Ministry of Local Government,” Mr M’tewa said.

Mr M’tewa said, apart from road maintenance, the local authority would soon commence construction of bridges in Katuba, Fipuya and a point between Chiwepala and Lulamba areas.

“We have recently received culverts for the crossing point between Chiwempala and Lulamba. This means the bridge construction is at procurement stage,” he said.

Mr M’tewa said the local authority recently graded 17 km of selected access roads in the district.

“In an effort to create easy access to social amenities for our people, we recently worked on phase one of grading 17km of access roads which has been completed and as for the phase two we have graded 3.9km out of 49 km,” he said.

He said his department listed wards such as Chikola, Gibson, Maiteneke, Chàbanyama,  Lulamba,  Kabundi ,Twatasha, and Chingola Central ward to be among those that have received rehabilitation in the phase one project.

Mr M’tewa said the local authority would continue to improve the road network system in the remaining wards, especially those that had impassable roads.

“We will continue improve the road infrastructure so that people in various communities have easy access to markets, clinics and other social amenities in the district, ” he said.
