ECL SECURES 200 MORE MEGA WATTS TO ZAMBIA’S GRID – ENVOY

President Edgar Lungu’s economic diplomacy has resulted into Zambia gaining 200 Mega Watts from Germany, Zambia’s Ambassador to the Federal Republic of Germany Anthony Mukwita has disclosed.

Mr. Mukwita said the project was in addition to the 750 Mega Watts from Kafue Gorge Lower Hydro Power Station launched recently.

He said the Get Fit Support Cooperation Project 200 Mega Watts Solar Project was another milestone in actualising the Head of State’s Vision to make a Zambia an electricity export hub.

Ambassador Mukwita was speaking when he featured on a Special Discussion Programme on Diamond TV this evening. He explained that the GET FiT Programme is executed by the Zambian Ministry of Energy and implemented by the German development bank KfW.

Meanwhile, Mr. Mukwita said Amatheon Agri Holding N.V. of Germany invested One Hundred Million Euros in Zambia’s agriculture sector.

He said the projects had economic benefits as it also created jobs.

And Mr. Mukwita who also is accredited to the Czech Republic, Poland, Austria, Slovak, Slovenia and Hungary said Zambians needed to speak good about their country as it had a bearing on the image of Zambia. 

He said Zambia had success stories such as President Lungu increasing the number of beneficiaries of Social Cash Transfer. 

Mr. Mukwita said unfounded allegations that Zambia had a bad human rights record were not good in the eyes of the international community.

He said the international community had easy access to liaise with President Lungu on any issue as opposed to the bureaucracy witnessed in other countries.
