IX independent candidates have vowed that they will not bow down until the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) reverses its stance over their decision to support and campaign for President Edgar Lungu
A representative of the group, Mr Warren Mwambazi said independent candidates would get justice even if the August 12 elections would have to be delayed.
Mr Mwambazi said the ECZ had remained quiet which would force them to act because their plea for them to be allowed to support President Lungu in the August 12 elections had been curtailed.
He said that their fight was not time-bound and that they had taken counsel from legal minds who would take it up if the ECZ overlook their demands.
Mr Mwambazi, who is Bwana Mkubwa independent candidate, said that the time frame would not derail them from their noble cause which the ECZ and other individuals were trying to infringe.
“I know time has gone but what I can assure you is that we are left with no choice but to take legal action since the commission does not want to hear our plight,” he said.
Mr Mwambazi said that they were fighting for generations to come and that injustice should be fought with the contempt it deserved.
He challenged the ECZ to respond to their appeal because they had given the electoral body ample time to respond to the matter.
Mr Mwambazi said this was not their fight alone as they were fighting for people that would come after them.
We don’t want change of govt, Mulobezi headmen

WE do not want change of government because we are satisfied with the development agenda spearheaded by President Edgar Lungu, headmen in Mulobezi have said.
And President Lungu prodded the traditional leaders not to allow individuals who wanted to divide the nation to enter State House.
This was during a meeting with the headmen in Sichili, Mulobezi yesterday.
Induna Likomeno who spoke on behalf of over 52 headmen said Mulobezi had transformed significantly from the time the PF formed government and had continued transforming under the watch of President Lungu.
He said most areas of Mulobezi now had piped water which had greatly reduced on diarrhoea diseases.
Induna Likomeno said connectivity with the rest of the country had been eased with the erection of communication towers.
He also said the social cash transfer program had transformed the lives of people in the province.
“The good agriculture policies of this government have also ensured that we record three consecutive bumper harvests,” the induna said.
Induna Likomeno said President Lungu was the only ideal leader and should continue being in office after the August 12 election.
He however called on the President to work on some feeder roads in the area during his second term of office.
Meanwhile, President Lungu cautioned the headmen against voting for power hungry politicians who had become divisive in their quest to form government.
He also called for patience from the people of Mulobezi as the PF government rolls development to all parts of the country.
President Lungu said development was a process which had no finishing line.
He said development was continuously taking place in the country on a daily basis.
President Lungu said even big economies such as the USA were also still undertaking developmental projects every day.
