Lusaka Central aspirants in fresh poll nominations

By CHARLES MUSONDA

PARLIAMENTARY candidates vying for the Lusaka Central seat are today scheduled to file in fresh nominations.

This follows a decision by the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) to cancel earlier nominations after independent candidate Charity Lumpa withdrew from the race.

On June 3, this year the ECZ cancelled nominations for Lusaka Central following Ms Lumpa’s withdrawal.

It also cancelled nominations in Mandevu, Mpulungu, and Bwacha constituencies.

In Mandevu constituency, the ECZ was compelled to cancel the nominations following the death of Zambians United for Sustainable Development candidate Melody Musutu while in Mpulungu and Kabwe’s Bwacha constituency Democratic Party candidates Gilbert Musonda and Charles Simutala, respectively, withdrew from the contest.

In an interview yesterday, Patriotic Front (PF) Lusaka Central constituency candidate Margaret Mwanakatwe said she was ready to file in her nomination at Kabulonga Girls Secondary School.

Ms Mwanakatwe said she would further comment on her achievements and aspirations for the constituency after filing in her nomination today.
