SCHOOL INSPECTION COMMENCES IN MAZABUKA

The inspection of schools in Mazabuka has commenced to assess Covid-19 compliance levels, following the closure of schools due to the pandemic.

The inspection team, led by Mazabuka District Commissioner, Jane Chirwa visited public and private schools to determine the readiness of schools to re-open, in the midst of the Covid-19 third wave which has claimed lives across the country.

Ms Chirwa said the situation on ground would determine whether or not, government would reopen the schools.

And Mazabuka District Education Board Secretary, Dennis Hameja said schools would be given a deadline to ensure that they meet all set Covid-19 stipulated requirements.

Meanwhile, Mazabuka District Health Director Phallon Mwaba noted that some schools were not ready to reopen as they lacked essential requirements.

Government recently  re-imposed strict measures, including closing schools, to curb the spread of Covid-19 as it battles to keep the third wave at bay. The measures will take effect on Thursday for 21 days.

Secretary to Cabinet,  Simon Miti, said public gatherings and social functions would be restricted while drinking places  will only operate from Thursday to Sunday.  – ZANIS.
