STOP BEING A CRY BABY, KALABA TOLD

By ADRIAN MWANZA

THERE is nothing wrong with President Edgar Lungu visiting anyone, anytime because he is the Head of State and Harry Kalaba is just being a cry baby, Green Party President Peter Sinkamba has said.

Mr Sinkamba said it was disappointing that the Democratic Party presidential runner who served as a cabinet minister could sink so low as to question the President’s visit of people in Lusaka’s Mtendere and Bauleni townships.

He was reacting to a complaint launched by the Democratic Party to the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) over what the opposition party termed as a fully-fledged campaign.

Mr Sinkamba said in an interview that he was shocked that the DP had written to the ECZ because there was nothing wrong with the president’s visit to the people.

He said President Lungu did not defy any electoral guidelines which had been put in place due to the outbreak of Covid-19.

“Personally, I don’t see anything wrong with what the president did in Bauleni since it was not a rally but he was just interacting with people,” Mr Sinkamba said.

He said that he sympathised with political parties which had raised concern because they did not have time since Covid-19 had hit them hard.

Mr Sinkamba however said that the head of state was not like any other leader and has an obligation to inspect development projects.

He said however that it was their democratic right to complain but that people needed to be sincere when looking at issues concerning the head of state. “There is nothing wrong with what the president did but people are being crybabies, but it’s understandable because a number of factors hampered the campaigns,” Mr Sinkamba said.

He said that he was sure the ECZ would give a clear guideline on the matter because it was mandated to do so.
