DO not be intimidated by cadres when you go out in the field to do your work, Inspector General of Police Kakoma Kanganja has told police recruits.
Mr Kanganja has therefore said he would join officers on the ground if he needed to in order to maintain law and order during and after elections.
Mr Kanganja implored the recruits to ensure that their presence was felt in every locality through intensified foot and motorised patrols so as to ensure that all criminal elements were stamped out.
The Inspector General was speaking at Kamfinsa school of public order maintenance yesterday when he sent out 1,230 police recruits to marshal this year’s general elections.
The police recruits who began their training on April 26, this year would help to reinforce the existing manpower during elections.
“This time around, we will not allow any form of anarchy to take center stage in our country and anyone who will be found crossing paths with the law will be severely dealt with because the law is in place to deal with any situation that we face.
“We will ensure that law breakers and all those who hide in the name of politics are fished out and dealt with decisively as individual culprits who will have come into conflict with the laws and not as politicians, political players or political players,” he said.
Mr Kanganja condemned acts of disrespect towards the police, the culture he said the command would not tolerate.
He said days were numbered for criminal elements and all those that had continued to dare the police, stating that the command would this time around strongly respond against them.
He said the fact that general elections world over in most cases were characterised with political violence should not be a perpetual phenomenon and does not mean people’s lives and property should be at stake.
Mr Kanganja also promoted 14 constables from the school to the position of surgeants out of which four are female and 10 male.
Meanwhile, College Commandant Patrick Bili said the recruits were ready to work at any police station and police general elections as they were well trained at the college.
